Qemali grew up in Ioannina, in an environment rich in culture and knowledge. There he learned foreign languages, history, philosophy. But above all, there he realized that the Albanians, divided among the four Ottoman vilayets, were sinking deeper and deeper into oblivion. They were without schools in their own language, without representation, without a voice to be heard.
The young Qemal, with the wisdom of an old man and the courage of a warrior, entered the Ottoman administration. For years, he served in high positions – from Baghdad to Thessaloniki, from the Empire to Europe – always with one goal: to learn the great game of politics. He knew that without knowledge and diplomacy, the Albanians would remain a voiceless people in a time of exploding nations.
