Enver Hoxha – The Last Days (1985): Rare Footage

In April 1985, Albania faced one of the most important and sensitive moments in its history: the death of Enver Hoxha, the man who had led the country for over four decades.
Our documentary brings rare, previously unbroadcast footage from the winter and spring of that year, revealing an unusual perspective — both familial and political — on the communist leader’s final days and hours.

The video features moments that have not previously been publicly released:

    • family celebrations for New Year 1985
    • Enver Hoxha’s last public and private appearances
    • closed meetings of the Politburo during the deterioration of his condition
    • extraordinary meeting of the Plenum of the Party of Labour of Albania (PPSH) on April 13
    • the reaction of the leadership and society to the news of his death
    • the days of national mourning and the funeral ceremony, through 15 April 1985

These images allow us to more deeply understand the political atmosphere of that time, the mechanism of the transfer of power from Enver Hoxha to Ramiz Alia, as well as the internal emotions that accompanied the end of an era.

The documentary aims to bring not only the historical facts, but also the human dimension of the last days of Enver Hoxha — a figure who still remains controversial in Albanian history.

The video retains its original audio; the accompanying text has been translated into English.
