In 1958 , in preparation for an article for the newspaper Zëri i Popullit , Enver Hoxha formulated a clear ideological thesis on the Vietnamese people’s war , which later became part of the official line of the Albanian state in support of Vietnam during the war against the USA.
In the archival document, Enver summarizes the basic views on how this war should be presented in Albanian publications.
✍️ Enver’s essential thesis
According to this material, Hoxha emphasizes:
“The Vietnam War is just and revolutionary.”
He requests that:
- To emphasize the popular and liberating character of the war;
- To expose American imperialism as an aggressor;
- The danger of Soviet revisionism , which, according to him, is betraying revolutionary causes with compromising positions, should not be neglected.
📣 Against the US and Soviet silence
Enver Hoxha proposes that the article clearly state that:
“American imperialism seeks to forcibly suppress a people fighting for their independence.”
He is against softened formulations and calls for a combative tone , in line with the Marxist revolutionary spirit.
🛑 Criticism of the silence of socialist countries
A very interesting part of the thesis includes criticism of the silent stance of the socialist countries , especially the Soviet Union. Enver writes:
“For such a just war, silence is betrayal. Solidarity should not be just words.”
📜 Ideological, but also diplomatic document
This thesis is not just a draft for an article. It represents:
- A political positioning of Albania at a time when the country was moving away from Soviet influence;
- A signal to Maoist China , which would become the new strategic ally in support of Vietnam;
- A direct intervention by Hoxha in the way foreign policy is formulated through the media .
